moving into the better choices era
Leanne Mair walking on the street
As I was standing at the train station at 5 in the morning, I looked around at all the things there were to eat and I thought about my travel eating habits and the word that came to mind was convenience.
Then it hit me, that I have mostly chosen convenience as an excuse, but it making smaller better choices have the largest impact and change, so instead of getting just a croissant (I am not about the exclusionary life), I also made sure I got a large bottle of water and a smoothie.
This isn’t about food, but it was another realisation in the layers of intentionality. It won’t be and doesn’t have to be radical change. It needs to be manageable, incremental adjustments that add up over time to something major.
I am almost making this declaration out loud as an affirmation and to encourage you to do the same. I don’t know what your better choices era looks like, but I know mine is about food and health as much as it is about making better choices.
What is convenient isn’t always what is best for you and at a certain point I learned that what felt convenient hasn’t been long term, especially when you want different things.
A good friend of mine, told me that I have high standards of friendship and he said rightly so and when I analysed this, it took me back through the archives. Settling for friendships because they were there, but not because I was viewed and respected as a friend. Convenience. Long-term I ended up getting hurt, which led me to expecting different facets from friendships.
I acknowledge and know that I am emotional high maintenance, but this is also part of my better choices era. I choose better for me. I choose better for my family and I choose better for my future.
What will your better choices era look like and what would you like to change?
If you don’t know, take the time to think about it. Make the ‘not this, but that’ list.
And enjoy your better choices era! See you there and I will get better at sharing mine too.
